Kaeng Krachan Golf Course Description:
Very scenic course with a good layout, and a pleasure to play
 

Kaeng Krachan Country Club & Golf Course`s remote location in neighbouring Petchaburi Province makes it a 1-hour inland drive from Hua Hin. The course itself is on the out skirts of The Kaeng Krachan National Park, which is one of Thailand’s most extensive national parks, the park stretches along the border of Myanmar. Spectacular Mountain ranges dominate the area along with the dense tropical forest. Due to the altitude of the Park and Golf Course, the area provides a pleasant climate which contrasts with the lowlands. 

Kaeng Krachan Country Club has been in business since 1994. Thai Architect Cherd Bunyaratavej designed the first 18-holes which consist of the Lake and Valley Course.  These holes require you to be accurate off the tee to avoid losing balls in the many trees and bamboo forest which line the fairways. The fairways are wonderful to play from, and the greens can be tricky, but do not appear to have a lot of movement in them. Several natural lakes form the basis for the water hazards that come into play on six of the holes. The Kaeng Krachan Course is a test of skill and patience at every level of the game.

The Jack Nicklaus 9 hole Mountain Course opened for play in March 2008,  adding too Kaeng Krachan`s existing 18 Holes, now making a 27 hole golf facility. In 2010 the Course opened its doors to the Asian Tour qualifying event.

From the back championship tees, the par 36 layout stretches over 3,600 yards and offers the most dramatic elevation changes on a golf course in Thailand. Each hole presents risk versus reward options and is suitable for golfers of all levels. The Jack Nicklaus design team, when designing the Mountain Course, did a remarkable job of preserving the natural terrain, lakes, streams and did minimal earthworks, so the course could be as natural looking as possible. Four of the hole, which the Nicklaus team designed, dogleg to the left which goes against their early designs in which they seemed to favour a dogleg to the right for Jack`s patented fade. Hole 3 is a fantastic par-5 that turns left through forest-bordered fairways on either side.  A sprinkling of pot bunkers with a two-tiered green sloping from back to front, makes for an interesting approach to the green.

Being located 51 kilometers from Hua Hin`s town centre, Kaeng Krachan gets little play, especially in the low season. It is well suited for golfers looking for a change and a golf course off the beaten track. There is an on-site golf resort, but the rooms and facilities are rather basic, and once played, people tend to go back to Hua Hin or Cha-Am
